Audience research

Audience research is the most important part of the media industry.

mass media information, is challenged to the 'masses' through opinion leadership. the people with the most access to media and having  more understanding  of a media content explain and diffuse the content to others...unfinished.

in this film the technical and symbolic codes used are

• dark colours to show its based on an old war.
• angry/nervous facial expressions to show it is a matter of life or death, making you worried for the soldiers,giving you a feeling of their emotions.

          

Weekly report 29/09/10

This week in media our teacher showed us many thing such as symbolic codes, technical codes, analysing opening scenes, how to use a blog and a variation of camera angles such as birds eye view, dutch tilt, high angle, low angle, childrens eye level and ground level. I have took notes and am excited to use them in my own work.

Genre

While the scope of the word "genre" is commonly confined to art and culture, it also defines individuals' interactions with and within their environments. In order to be recognized as genre these interactions and environments must be recurring. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genre )

genre advantages

• audience know what they are going to whatch
• genres can be mixed up such as rom-com which are called hybrids.

The Ring 2 - Film opening

The whole film, revolves around a video of a ring. At first their is a lot of confusion to what the video is about and how people die after watching it, but one women investigates deeper into the scenario, fighting for her and her sons life.

the genre is a horror/thriller based film. using such as:

dim lighting

close ups

knifes as props in background

camera focused on the tv when the video is on

the costume hair and make up used is brilliant using bright pale facial makeup and jet black hair for the evil girl.

The cold blue camera filter represents an abnormal character

The symbolic code for a cold blue effect/filter is a convention of a horror/thriller.

the facial expressions are forbidden as she hides her true look.

this picture has a scary mystery,the positioning of the character makes him seem inferior to the focus of the still image.

also the photo is concentrated on the door, by using lighting too highlight the mystery, at the end of the corridor.

his costume and hair makes him look young and fragile, indicating their is a threat.

This is a close up of an evil villain 

it emphasises his teeth to show he is abnormal and will eat somebody

the close up angle is to get the full face to show exactly what he looks like.
